Founded by Aussie duo Marianne Sea and Andrew Yang, Young Republic features a plethora of unique, eclectic and one of a kind womenswear, menswear, jewellery, accessories and products for the home created by international independent and emerging designers. Likened to Etsy for fashion, the appeal for these designers to sell on Young Republic is a no-brainer – the website allows them to transact online with no joining, listing, or upfront fees; features a dead-easy portal to manage products, orders and stock inventory; and provides free-to-use social interaction, community management and marketing tools to assist designers to grow their brands.

Designers are quick to jump on board this new opportunity to bring indie fashion to the masses. Young Republic’s newly launched site already features over 500 Australian and 100 International designers, all destined to be the next big names in fashion.

“The beauty of Young Republic is that it is so youthful and current. It is a fantastic tool for putting designers in touch with their target market and giving each label an opportunity to be seen,” states Lauren Brooks, the Australian designer behind Baumbach.

Fashion lovers from all over the world are able to shop the streets of Sydney, New York, San Francisco, London, Paris and Tokyo without leaving the comfort of their own homes, and can easily discover and recommend pieces that cannot be found in local stores.

“People love going to the weekend markets because they can buy unique one-of-a-kind items you won’t find with the big brands,” says Young Republic co-founder Marianne Sea, “We wanted to bring that exciting experience online”.

Locked And Loaded!

18 May

Lately I’ve been having major dilemmas. I’ll find an AMAZING item of clothing that is very unlikely to be found on every other girl around town and 9 times out of10 its an international brand so the shipping is almost as expensive as the thing I want to buy. Argh!

These Machine Gun Stockings by Singapore based brand The Cult Label are a breath of fresh air since everyone and their mother started wearing the Henry Holland style stocking tights. Edgy and original.

I don’t usually share these cool finds with friends until I’ve bought it and worn it but this is unfortunately sold out (however a similar version is now available) and on top of that the ‘nude’ shade of the actual stockings could look really wrong on my brown skin tone so don’t want to risk it. But heck I can’t keep these to myself they are just too much!! I need these in my life somehow..fingers crossed they will be stocked in a light denier black or no doubt some brand will knock them off (most likely be Top Shop lol)

This is the first i’ve seen from The Cult Label and trawling through the stock I want or like every other thing. Definitely the place to cop a few things to jazz up your wardrobe and make a change from the usual UK high street finds.

What do you think of these.. Yay or Nay?!

#HelloNellyUK!

18 May

Regular readers of PRL would’ve seen the recent competition I had to win tickets to the Nelly UK launch party and last week I joined the lucky comp winners from here and various other sources to mingle with press and fashion bloggers from around the UK for a great night of cocktails, fashion & entertainment.

The highlight of the event was that Nelly was kindly giving away a free pair of shoes to the first 300 ladies though the door and so as you can imagine the queues began early. I arrived at 6.30 and joined the bloggers queue and slowly but surely worked my way in and grabbed a Nelly ribbon to get me some shoes!

The venue was the beautiful Aqua which is a restaurant bar by day and there were plenty of drinks flowing immediately. Apart from drinking there was a plenty to do. Have your nails painted, get your photo taken in the photo booth with the some cool accessories or browse the fabulous clothing and footwear brands such as AX Paris and Cuba shoes that lined the rooms.

The VIP room that hosted the shoes we were able to pick from was bustling with eager ladies picking out their favourite three pairs of shoes out of loads nestling in glass cases around the room to enter into the Nelly booking system. There wasn’t opportunity to try on shoes for obvious reasons, I just hope i’ve picked the right size as i’m an annoying ‘inbetweener’ size. But anyhow the wait long queue to select shoes was eased with entertainment from pole dancers and sushi.

Over all it was a great night of socialising and goodies. I can’t wait for one of my studded lovelies to arrive! A great way to say #HelloNellyUK. Check out some of the pictures of the night and don’t forget to check out Nelly the next time you indulge in some online shopping.

Brand Watch: Activist Eyewear

13 Apr

The greatest thing about the development of social networking is that it’s so much easier to touch base and discover exciting new people and brands. The latest discovery via Twitter has been Eyewear brand Activist Eyewear. Brooklyn crafted and Japan crafted this brand prides itself on authentic influences of the streets that surround them in New York and work alongside high skilled craftsmen to bring its customers cutting edge products.

The unisex products are very thoughtfully produced and each style is produced on a limited run with 718 pieces made in each colour way which is homage to their hometown area code. Once it’s sold out, that’s it! It’s a great concept especially if you are like me and love to key pieces you won’t find every other person on the high street with.

No brand these days is making waves if it isn’t experimenting with some sort of new technology and Activist is no different. The frames of their eyewear is deigned with an innovative design named Split-Fit which is designed to relieve pressure from the temples and ear area which you often get from ill fitting generic frames. The split design is crafted specially to provide comfort and a secure fit.

Activist Eyewear very kindly gave me personalised edition of their SS12 Lookbook and I’ve picked out some of my favourite pieces. (Click on images to enlarge.)

For me the Krieger frame is my number one pick, available as an optical or sunglasses frame and in four colour ways. I love the white and the pop of extreme polarised ActiVIZm lenses. All frames are available in four colour ways and are the perfect way to finish off any SS12 outfit.

Chanel: The Little Black Jacket

22 Mar

Chanel to most is seen as the epitome of female fashion chic. Classic shapes and timeless feminine silhouettes galore and amongst a long list of other pieces the Chanel jacket has become a staple for the brand and countless models and celebs have graced our TV screens and magazines I wearing one.

In celebration of the long running success of the Chanel jacket Karl Largerfeld has enlisted hundreds of well known faces in the creation of The Little Black Jacket: Chanel’s Classic Revisited a book which will delve into the history and appeal of this iconic item of clothing. “The CHANEL jacket symbolises a timelessly fashionable form of nonchalant feminine elegance: it belongs to every era”

The book will be available Autumn 2012 but until then take a look at some behinds the scenes footage.
